Tarot Talk: Six of Swords

By Katrina Rasbold

“Tarot Talk” is a once-a-week reading with a deep exploration of the card we pull. What are some aspects of the card (as per the original Pamela Colman Smith artwork) that  add extra dimensions to the interpretation? How does that tell us what to focus on in the coming week? This week’s card is…

THE SIX OF SWORDS

Whether you are the passenger or the person moving the boat, your life is moving forward in some way. This can also mean an important literal journey that occurs through travel. Etiher way, there is movement from one place or state of being to another.

A Deeper Look:

Consider that in the image, a figure sits huddles with a child. We cannot determine the gender or age of either the child or the older figure. They sit side-by-side, so we presume they are close, emotionally if not familially. The strong punter propels them from one place to another.  The six swords are in front of the child and the older person and since swords represent our obstacle and challenges, we image that they must remember that as they travel, their challenges travel with them. Another point to notice is that the water to the right of the boat is choppy and troubled and the water to the left of the boat is smooth and calm.

What to Focus On This Week:

If you do not have actual travel plans, notice areas of your life where you are “moving on” from one state of being to another. Is your friend base shifting as you evolve? Are you leaving a home, job, or relationship? Are you leaving some part of yourself behind because it no longer reflects who you are or what you stand for? What is transitioning or moving for you?

Keep in mind that even though you elevate and change yourself or your surroundings, there will always be trauma responses, triggers, limiting beliefs, and wounds that you take with you until you are ready to work on and heal them. The presence of the child figure reminds you to pay attention to the people around you and how the changes in you and your life affect them.
