Kava kava is an interesting plant in that all seeds it produces are sterile. This means that the only way to propagate the plant is through cuttings. It is high needs, so you will not likely be able to grow it in a pot or even in a greenhouse.
Throughout its life, kava kava is quite particular regarding its moisture needs and the climate in which it grows. The plant is found almost exclusively in the Pacific islands of Hawaii, Federated States of Micronesia, Vanuatu, Fiji, the Samoas and Tonga.
This is where we have a conversation about the efficacy of herbs used in magic based on land spirits and the plants local to where you live and use the herbs. It really does not seem as if it would matter, does it? If I use oregano on my pizza, it will taste the same no matter where it was grown, right?
While that indifference may not be an issue with culinary herbs, when we use herbs for magic, they tend to work best in their home court. The same is true for stone energy. If you use stones and herbs that are native to your geographic area, you will achieve a much greater energetic impact. When you use herbs and stones that come from places foreign to you, even within our country, the effect is markedly diminished.
For this reason, using kava kava, you will get results, but not nearly as intense of an impact is if you lived in Hawaii, Micronesia, Vanuatu, Fiji, the Samoas, or Tonga.
Used as a fermented ceremonial drink (do your research and learn how to safely do this!), kava kava induces visions and alters perception. As such, it is one of the visionary herbs used by practicing shamans in astral travel. It is an aphrodisiac frequently used in sex magic rituals.
Dried kava kava is often included in mojo bags for protection against evil and cultivating good luck.
