We just finished a move – one we planned for over the course of nearly a year. Why didn’t we just sling a spell and wait for the universe to make it happen for us? Because changes manifest with elbow grease and sometimes spellwork doesn’t help at all.
I was just reading something Satanism says about that yesterday and it made me think – it would be nice if non Satanic magical traditions would adopt one of the philosophies they have about how manipulating things on the mundane level is a powerful form of magic called, “lesser magic.”
Lesser magic is everyday practical magic that works through the use of psychology. You use your perfumes, body language, eye contact, facial expressions, and other physical means to get people to react the way you want them to. Some people call this manipulation and say it is unethical- but people do it every single day. Others call it simple glamour. You create an image you want believed, and that creates desires responses. What illusion did we create using lesser magic with our move?
Well, we kind of didn’t, but we used the same principle. We moved energy on the mundane level to create a shift in energy and thus a physical change. We did not pray or cast spells. We decided we wanted to move from where we lived, and we went looking for where we wanted to be. We toured multiple places and settled on two places in particular. We walked around those areas frequently, and retoured them both until we decided on the one place we were sure we liked best.
Six months before our lease was up, we applied at the place we live now. After our application was approved, we paid all the deposit fees. About 2 months before the move date, we did one of my favorite magical operations- we purged. Because the less you own, the less you have to move! We gave things away to friends and dropped some things off at the thrift store- because hey- we recycle! We also started going for walks at the new place with our dog, to lay down our energy- and also to get her used to the place!
We moved energy around for right about a year. So, once we got the key and started taking things in, the place was already ours because a lot of our energy was there. We finished everything for the move less than a week ago, and are already comfortably settled in. A year of magic with six months of magical saturation on that ONE spot got started before we even got here. We feel right at home as a result.
No spells were worked. No prayers were sent. No energy was randomly thrown out to the universe. We did this with our own energy, directed exactly where we wanted it. This goes against everything the mainstream says about magic, doesn’t it? The mainstream says that all a REAL witch has to do is use candles, oils, herbs, crystals, special clothes, incense, and fancy words, and the powers that be do all the work for us.
Well, that’s a crock of shit.
Nothing beats rolling up your sleeves and doing things for yourself. Energy is contained within our bodies. Every time we breathe, blink, swallow, or even roll over in bed, we are moving energy. Life is a miracle. Life is magical. It’s not something mysterious or secret that precious few powerful witches and mages know. The second you pop out of the womb, your magic begins. Spellwork is one kind of magic that can be used, and while it is very powerful, it shouldn’t be the only kind of magic you use.
Dressing for the job you applied for will help you land it at the interview. That’s magic. Taking a second job to pay off debt is better prosperity magic than “wishing upon a star” to wake up rich. Having the guts to ask that guy out who you like is more powerful attraction magic than keeping your feeling hidden and just casting a love spell. Telling your ex to fuck off is a better way to get rid of them than using hotfoot powder. Go ahead and pray and cast spells, but never forget that nothing, and I do mean absolutely nothing, replaces closing the spellbook, putting down the oils and crystals for a hot minute, and getting up and doing the work on the mundane level.
