This week in the forum I brought up the definition of magic by making the following post:
“My definition of magic is: Magic is everything you say and do, it is all energy.” That is simplified but it works for me. What is your definition of magic?”
The responses are as follows:
“It’s energy alright, but it’s what you do with the energy. The craft of Witchcraft is knowing how to focus and use the energy.”
“Indeed, it is. My version above is a simplified one.”
“Magic is the exercise of the Will to manipulate the (quantum) fields of energy that embody the universe. We have only the faintest ideas about how this is done… but we are learning.”
“Love this! And I agree!”
“For me, magick is as simple as the act of breathing.”
“That’s pretty close to my definition also.”
“Majick is the intentional and deliberate application of Hermetic Principles to set into motion a stirring of energies for the purpose of manifesting specific desired change in ourselves and our environment.”
“I have always felt it’s energy and the Craft is the focus and direction of that energy.”
“A certain thing you want so you do certain things to get certain results.”
“Connecting into the energy and fabric of the universe (or beyond), interacting and acting with it, initiating and receiving energy flow. The more awareness, the more affect, but also letting go of the focus on the awareness and just becoming…letting your own energy at the quantum level or beyond, become part of that fabric and flow then creating, weaving, blending, dancing with the universe…creating and receiving and sharing.”
“Magic is thaumaturgy & thaumaturgy is the working (turgy) of the miracle (thauma).”
I love the variety of answers the forum provides, It shows we each have our own definition for magic and I would like to expand my definition. In simplified terms magic is everything you think, say and do, but it matters how deeply you think, the words you speak matter, and most of all, what you do matters…it is a matter of intent behind each of those things. Others might say it is the focus of your will behind them and both are correct.
One can easily verbalize most anything but unless there is will, direction and energy combined with the verbalizations it will have little impact. This is about how deeply you are connected to the energy you are trying to direct. As one of our members said above, “I have always felt it’s energy and the Craft is the focus and direction of that energy.”
