Tourmaline is one of the stones, like peacock ore, that seems like it should not exist in nature. Its luminous beauty is one of Earth’s beautiful miracles and to make it even more amazing, its magical attributes are off the charts.
Despite its unique natural beauty, tourmaline does actually grow in this refined form, usually onto granite. It is an aluminum silicate and the metal intrusions that run throughout it change to vibrant colors when exposed to different heat temperatures. The most common colors are green, pink, red, blue, brown, and black, often with several colors appearing in layers of the same formation, such as with watermelon tourmaline (right).
Specifically, watermelon tourmaline promotes the harmonious union of opposites, so it works well in energy work to create an accord between two people. Even further, it is useful when two people wish to join energies for spell work or ritual as it will remove obstacles to a solid interpersonal connection and promote unimpeded energy transference. It is also a great tool for projecting unspoken thoughts from one person to another, even over a distance.
All tourmalines have a calming effect on the mind and promote tranquil sleep.
Both red and pink tourmaline are called Rubellite. Pink promotes love, friendship, self-acceptance, and happiness. Red promotes courage, strength, and healing energy.
Green tourmaline (verdelite) draws money, promotes optimal health, and connects to the heart chakra. It creates a sense of vitality and overall good health.
Blue tourmaline (indicolite) connects to the third eye and throat chakras. It aids us in looking inward, helps us to heal old traumas, releases us from emotional bondage, and lifts us to higher consciousness. Its connection to the throat chakras enables us to effectively convey our personal truths to others. This makes it especially useful when we navigate that great valley of shadow work.
Black tourmaline, called schorl, is one of the strongest stones you can use for protective energy, especially in protection from psychic attack and empath overload. It is also ideal for people who have trouble staying grounded.
Tourmaline also insinuates itself into quartz as it develops, giving it a beautiful appearance striated with the tourmaline colors, usually black. Tourmalinated quartz is valued for its ability to facilitate quality astral projection.
