Herbalism For Your Day – Hyssop

By Katrina Rasbold

Hyssopus officinalis will go to battle for you as a protective and purifying herb. Its purification properties extend to health and healers often use it to treat cold symptoms.

It is also used externally to treat rheumatism and muscle pain. Historially, hyssop us a sacred herb used in religious rites for its ability to cleanse and protect both people and places.

Hyssop is like me in many ways, such as: it likes pleasant weather and abhors cold weather. It is thick, bushy, and evergreen, also like me. It is short, like me, rarely growing over knee-height, and it flowers in beauty, which I aspire to do.

Magically, practitioners often add hyssop to protection baths, sachets and mojo bags. Hanging hyssop in your home purges it from all evil. Sprinkling hyssop over altar spaces cleanses negativity from the area.
