Practical Magic With Saoirse: The Power of Saying “Yes”

By Lady Saoirse

Bright Blessings,

So, I have written about the power of saying “no” and what a wonderful magic word it is. However, there is another magic word that is just as potent and will give you just as good of results if not better ones. You might think the word is “please” or even “pretty please” because sometimes saying that will get you what you want. You might think the word is “later”,because that gives you a pause and reminds people to come back and try again. You might also think the magic word is “love” because without it most things in life wouldn’t be possible. Those are all very powerful magical words, but I have a different magic word that I bet you don’t say to yourself very often.

That word is “yes”.

When was the last time that you said “yes” to yourself when you desperately needed it? When we need a break, most people tell themselves “no.” When we need reassurance, most people tell themselves “no” and continue emotionally suffering out of some puritanical belief that to suffer is virtuous. When we need permission to start something that we’ve always dreamed of, most people tell themselves “no” because there are too afraid of the consequences if they fail. Sometimes when we need the permission to do something that’s very good for us that is looked down upon by society, most of the time we tell ourselves “no.”

There is a different path. Sometimes 2 slices of cake instead of 1 needs to be said “no” to. Other times a slice of cake needs an ecstatic “yes” –  even that second slice. When was the last time you put on comfortable shorts in the summer? Are you trying to hide cellulite? Put the damn things on and let the sun kiss your skin. You’ll get more vitamin D that way anyways. Is your heart crying out for time to stop and read and relax and unwind, but you’re too busy doing the chores your children refused to do? Read the book. Say “yes” to yourself for a change instead of saying “yes” to your kid’s refusal to do what they’re supposed to do.

You’re probably more likely to say “yes” to other people than you are yourself aren’t you? I bet you are. Why? Don’t you know that you are just as worthy of happiness as everybody else? Depriving yourself of happiness is not magic. It is rooted and toxic Christianity, and as magical people we should decolonize our minds and revert to the wild animals that the goddess invented us to be. We were not created to suffer and go without those things that we deserve.

We are not born to have our natural manes shorn and tamed with chemicals and straighteners. We are not born to eat food that was produced in a lab. We were not born to slather our body with chemicals and cosmetics that give us cancer over time. We were not born to cover the earth with concrete and asphalt. We are not born to exist in climate-controlled boxes, completely divorced from nature. We are not born to believe that every sexual desire we have is filthy. We are not born to just earn money, pay bills, breed, and die.

We are born to celebrate our natural bodies, no matter how against the mainstream’s standards of beauty they may be. We are born to eat of the earth, not the genetically engineered trash that is pimped out to us on the assembly line and packaged neatly to be placed on supermarket shelves. We are born to be bedeck our skin with things that are natural like what we’re born to eat and both the things that we put on our skin as well as the things that we put into our bodies should be medicine instead of poison. We are born to walk upon the natural earth, cultivate gardens, and let the sun, moon, and rain touch our skin. All acts of love and passion really are the rituals of the goddess, and we are born to engage in those. Work should make us productive members of our society and support us, not stress us to the point of experiencing years of living death.

In a way, saying “yes” to all of these wonderful things is saying “no” to the bad things, however we must first say “yes” to what is right for us before we say “no”. Meditate on these things for a while if you need to. If you’re not already using the magic word “yes” to give yourself permission to do all the things that are right for you, please make that a major focus in your magic until saying yes to yourself comes naturally.

You are a beloved child of the earth made in the image of the creator and you deserve to be happy. Say “yes” my brothers and sisters.

Blessed Be.
