If we are lucky, at some point in our Pagan lifetime, we will be invited to visit someone else’s ritual/grove/coven/circle/event to share in their practice. This could be at a public place such as a park or an event center or it can be at a private home or covenstead. In either instance, there are certain protocols of basic etiquette, tailored to Pagan practice, that are good to observe if you ever wish to be invited to another function. Keeping one’s name untarnished in the Pagan community is quite an extraordinary feat and it often starts with being a guest who maintains integrity and good manners. The Fools Journey Through the Tarot Major Arcana
By Katrina Rasbold
A common practice among those who make a serious study of the Tarot is to develop a story that takes The Fool, the first card of the Major Arcana, on a quest through the remainder of the Major Arcana until he ends up at The World card, having completed his quest and his cycle.

This week in the Forum There were two great topics, “Is Christian Witchcraft a thing?” And “What is Magic?” To get things started I gave my own simplified definition of “Magic is everything you say and do, it is all energy.” And the conversation was off! Continue reading From the Forum

This week in my herbal journal, I found a couple of oils to share with you. Since I have studied these and wrote the notes on them, I have made them and used them together in an oil for an irritable bowel or stomach with other ingredients. Sadly, I committed the sin of all herbalists and did not write down the recipe for it, but I will keep looking as it worked very well. Continue reading Herbalism For Your Day: Basil & Bergamot Oils

In this week’s “From the Forum” article, Cat shares the Forum responses to a question I have seen frequently on the internet as of late: “Can a Christian also be Pagan?” Here is my take on a similar subject:

Magick is All in Your Head…and Your Body, Too.
By Tatiara
Tap into your imagination. Experience higher awareness and expanded vision, and you will be in the right “spirit” for success in magick. These enhanced perceptions are what have led humanity “to the gods”. You may view gods and goddesses as outside entities, as parts of yourself, or both. You may not work with deities at all during ritual or spellwork. Whatever your path, you most likely utilize a special state of consciousness to “get you there.”

Bright Blessings,
How many times have you seen a meme, video, or a snarky comment about the fact that someone has to rehome an animal? It is true that there are some people who are heartless. They get an animal on a whim and then they are too lazy to care for it. Maybe the animal broke their favorite vase so they want to get rid of it. Maybe they don’t like the fact that there’s dog hair everywhere. Maybe they bought the pet for their small children and they want to punish their kids for not taking care of it like an adult would. Happy belated Valentine’s Day! If you felt lonely on this mixed bag of a holiday, your thoughts might drift to the idea of magic for bringing in a love interest. There are right ways (effective ways) to do it and troublesome ways to do it. In this (older) video, I try to unravel the pros and cons of love magic. Continue reading Ask A Witch: Does Love Magic Work?

This week as I turn the page to my very disorganized herbal journal, I wrote years ago; I find Plants of the Zodiac. These are the magical spiritual uses for these herbs. Please know that this list is not a complete compendium, rather it is my study notes. The source for these notes is the book, Garden Witches Herbal by Ellen Dugan. Where does your energy go?
Often, I hear even advanced magical practitioners talking about physical, mental, emotional, social, sexual, and magical energy as though these are somehow disconnected and unrelated to one another. Some even equate success as a Pagan leader with working well beyond healthy exhaustion of limits on those energy reserves. Anyone truly worth their Himalayan sea salt knows a deficit in any of these levels compromises them all and if you physically and mentally exhaust yourself, your magical energy suffers greatly. The forum does not disappoint when it comes to having a variety of topics. This week’s topics include getting your solar eclipse t-shirts as Oberon Zell is quite excited to see yet another solar eclipse, a publisher offering a discount on books for Valentine’s Day, WitchCon coming up, a new Asatru Temple that was built and even a couple of videos from Witchcraft masters like Lauri Cabot and Oberon Zell. As is typical, the dialogue on these topics was as varied as the topics themselves. Let’s take a look. Continue reading From the Forum

Today as I open my journal from 2014, I find angelica. What I find interesting about this herb is it has so many lookalikes. Pretty much the entire family of umbelliferae are lookalikes for angelica. The family includes about 460 genera and 4,250 species. Continue reading Herbalism For Your Day: Angelica

Every now and then, a person influential in your field of influence says or writes something so profound that the whole world seems to stop around you as you let the message sink in. This happened to me in February 2018 in San Jose, California when I attended a presentation by one of my favorite writers and lecturers, John Beckett. Every time I sit through any of his classes, I come away with some snippet that finds its way into my future teachings. For this presentation, his topic was “Alliances” and although he made this statement within a different context than I use it in this post, I was stunned (not for the first or the last time) by the raw truth in his words. John said, “Too many people expect a seat at the table when they bring little or nothing to the table.” Continue reading Witch At The Crossroads: A Seat At The Table

Bright Blessings,
There is a form of magic not everybody knows about: Food Magic. Today, we have a strange relationship with food. We either eat as little as possible in order to starve ourselves so somebody we want to be lovers with thinks we are “thin and desirable enough,” or we eat some fad diet that is toted by the media as the cure-all humans ate thousands of years ago before the evils of industrialization. We don’t eat for our health. No, we have pills for that. We don’t grow our own food, we don’t butcher animals for meat, nor do most people even know how to cook anything unless it comes in a box, can, or bag with easy-to-follow instructions on it. It’s Knot Magic (Yes, it is magic!)
In my experience, one of the greatest magical focus tools of all time is the rosary. The intense concentration one can generate by praying the rosary is very nearly unparalleled across spiritual dividing lines.
In Paganism, we have our own form of praying the rosary that is slightly different, but accomplishes the same goal. “Knot Magic” is a very effective form of focused magic similar to praying the rosary, except that one instills their own intent into each “bead,” which is actually a knot. Here is how to do it:

This week, a student asked me about scrying: Is it real? Does it work? How do you do it? I did not believe what my High Priestess told me decades ago when I asked the same questions. She said if you sit in the dark in front of a mirror with nothing but candlelight, you will see amazing things. Of course, not believing it meant I was going to try it out as soon as I possibly could, which I did. Continue reading Ask A Witch: The Art of Mirror Scrying
